Two Truths and a Lie About Travel

If you know me, then you know travel is a part of my life! From college football games, NFL games, red carpets, to overseas trips you name it I’ve done it. At least 35 out of the 52 weeks of the year I’m on the road. It’s insane when you think about it. However, being booked and blessed to travel the world is nothing to complain about! I always get asked, what is it like to be on the move so much, and quite honestly, I love it for the most part. Doing what I love while seeing the world. I mean, what else could you possibly ask for?! Probably to have a permanent seat in first class, I guess? A girl can dream! Here’s a quick look at my two truths and a lie when it comes to hitting the road or the friendly skies.

TRUTH: The travel bug is REAL

I wasn’t a believer at first until I went on my first girls trip in 2014 to Puerto Rico fresh out of college. No money, hella credit card debt, and still searching for a job. The trip was a graduation gift from my mom, and ever since then, nothing was the same. Once I was able to save up funds and secure a job in a top 3 market, I was out! I’ve always had a curiosity for cultural history, geography, and just downright exploring. I’ve swum with sharks in Bimini, rode camels in the deserts of Marrakech, and taken in the beauty of the Eiffel Tower on a summer night. Once you experience one place, you will definitely want to see what the rest of the world has to offer! For me, travel isn’t just an IG post, but an experience that I can hold on to forever, whether it’s to Tallahassee, FL to cover a game or Cuba with friends. Those are moments and experiences that live on for a lifetime.

TRUTH: Traveling will take a toll on you

It looks glamorous on Instagram, but traveling can really take a lot out of you. Almost every other week I find myself on the road for interviews, sporting events, appearances, or speaking engagements. A part of my career that I definitely love, but also have to make sure that I counterbalance with the right amount of sleep, exercise, and a [semi] healthy diet. When I have the opportunity to spend a full weekend at home it’s all about resetting and giving myself a little TLC. Self-care ain’t just for Sundays!

LIE:  You have to be rich to travel

I would be lying if I said that I haven’t spent a pretty penny on travel, however, there are ways to experience travel and not go overboard. In 2018, I traveled to six different countries in addition to traveling domestically. I was able to experience France, Morocco, Costa Rica, the Bahamas, Mexico, and Canada.

One way to reduce cost is to travel with a group. Splitting lodging expenses can save you some coins! Also, consider AirBnB’s when you travel overseas, instead of hotels. Almost every country that I’ve traveled to with friends and family, I have booked a BnB for lodging. Not only does it save you from high priced hotel fees, but it also gives you a more local experience when you travel!

Also, consider creating an itinerary with price points for restaurants, excursions, etc. so you make sure that you’re spending within your budget. Lastly, just save! Some people like Louie bags, other people like to see the world. If you can do both, good on you, but a little bit of saving can go a long way if you’re planning to see what the world has to offer!
